  • Mary Garvey reads a newspaper at the University of Windsor Ontario Public Interest Reseasch Group (OPIRG). Garvey and others went to the office for coffee after an "Idle No More" round dance event. "Idle No More" is a native rights movement.

  • Canada, Ontario, Welland. July 2 - 12, 2009.  MacLellan Family visit. Heather, Neil and Kesihan in from Washington via Ottawa. Scott flew in somewhat unexpectedly. We showed up for the weekend but Alexandria and I stayed and extra week while Anna had a job interview for her own job. A 'state of grace' I call it.

  • Harare, Zimbabwe, November, 2012. Dr Paul Thistle at a relative's home in Harare. Thistle was the Chief Medical Officer at the Howard Hospital until August, 2012 when he was abruptly transferred with three weeks notice after 17 years at the hospital. The Salvation Army, his employer and church, subsequently terminated him several days after this photograph was made.

  • Glendale, Zimbabwe. 2006. -- A woman poses for a portrait outside the hospital kitchen during a rainstorm. -- The Howard Hospital is a well established Salvation Army rural mission hospital located north of Harare, Zimbabwe. It is so entrenched in the Chiweshe community that they consider it as their own.

  • GUSCO, the Gulu Support the Children Organisation, is a camp for children who have escaped the Lord's Resistance Arrmy rebel group, who have been captured by the Government of Uganda Army or who have accepted a Government General Amnesty. They receive shelter, food, education, medical and psychological assistance before being returned to their families. All the children are under 18 and many of the children have their own children. These young people were captured by the LRA and forced to be soldiers, porters or concubines. A civil war has entered its 19th year.

They work and live at the school but are afraid they may lose their jobs due to decreasing enrollment. Many students had their school fees paid by the former chief medical officer at the nearby Howard Hospital.
